Texarkana to Arkadelphia

We're now in Arkadelphia (funny name right?). It was a long 86 miles today. I was really running out of gas during the last 15 miles, but I finished. We took a two hour break at a boat ramp on the Little Missouri River, which was a lot of fun. Tomorrow we're off to Hot Springs.

Paris to Texarkana

We're in Texarkana today, right on the border of Texas and Arkansas. We hit some bad traffic this afternoon only a few miles from our destination and Angela fell on her bike. Her helmet cracked and she had what we believe was a mild concussion. She is doing well now though.

Tomorrow we cross into Arkansas.

Dallas to Paris

We made it all the way to Paris today...Paris Texas that is. Unfortunately I have a sad story today though. We racked our bikes coming out of Dallas this morning in order to avoid traffic. When my bike was put on the roof of the van my front wheel was placed on the van, but never made it into the wheel rack...Long story short, my wheel is likely somewhere along side the interstate outside of Dallas. :(

Fort Worth

It's been a few days since my last post and we've been in Fort Worth the whole time so I'll just put everything in one post.

We're staying in a luxurious set of cabins at Camp Carter. Unfortunately we can't use the pool, the obstacle course, the canoes, or the equestrian center but the view is certainly nice. Our cabin sits right on the lake and has a beautiful sunset.

Abilene to Ranger TX

We rode into Ranger TX today. The church we're staying at has no showers for us so we all got the wonderful experience of showering at a truck stop, which was much nicer than I expected. The facilities were very clean and the showers were hot, and that's more than can be said for some of our previous showers.

Sadly our teammate Miranda is temporarily leaving us for a couple of weeks and was nice enough to get us some brownies and ice cream as a parting gift. She will be missed.

104 miles tomorrow to Fort Worth and a few days of hard earned rest. :)

Sweetwater to Abilene

I was on the support team today for our ride to Abilene. With the exception a short stretch of dirt road it was a pretty smooth day. As we came into Abilene a couple riders got lust, but ended up getting distracted by a round of miniature golf so I don't feel too bad.

Though not a very big town Abilene has a lot to do. We went to eat at a small Mexican restaurant, and then decided to go checkout the Abilene Zoo. It wasn't very big but the animals were very active. I watched a Black Bear go for a swim and saw one of the zoo keepers feeding the monkeys.

Lamesa to Sweetwater

We've arrived in Sweetwater Texas after a 73 mile ride. After unpacking some of us decided to make our way over to the Dandy Western Wear store we passed on our way into town. The place was filled with Cowboy Hats, Cowboy Boots, and of course ridiculously huge belt buckles. Some of us came away with hats and boots (and one belt buckle). I didn't find anything I couldn't live without but we'll still be in Texas for a while.

Lubbock to Lamesa

Happy Easter Everyone!

Today we just had a quick 60 mile ride to Lamesa (the birth place of chicken fried steak). We arrived in town around 12:30. As we got settled in for the day our support team informed us they had setup an easter egg hunt for us. I thought for sure I found more eggs than everyone else, but Angela beat me by one :(.

Littlefield to Lubbock

We've arrived in Lubbock Texas, the location of the main Texas Tech. campus. It was only a 35 mile ride today. We had some heavy wind for a bit but nothing too bad.

Rachel and I decided that a 35 mile bike ride wasn't quite enough of a work out so we decided to go for a run. We had a nice 2.5 mile jog around the Texas Tech campus.

We went to Fuzzy's Taco Shop for dinner. It's a hole in the wall college taco place with amazing tacos and enchiladas. Several team members decided to buy cowboy hats from a local shop.

We're in Texas!

We crossed into Texas today and are staying in a small town called Littlefield. The terrain is even flatter than I expected. We shouldn't have too many difficult climbs any time soon but I'm a little concerned about the wind. We'll see how it goes.

The people here are really nice. The church we're staying at made us some delicious BBQ sandwiches, as well as got us some locally made ice cream.
